View Angle

CONTENTS

Next important parameter is the “View Angle”. The greater the view angle, the more events will be recorded from both sides of the vehicle. It should also be noticed with the view angle of 170 degrees and more the distortion will be occurs (a straight line turns into an arc.) But better to see the car number plate even with distortion then to see nothing. There are two viewing angle: diagonal angle (β) and horizontal angle (α). We are interested the horizontal angle. But the manufacturers to compete on the market, use the “little trick” – put in the specification  diagonal angle which is bigger then horizontal angle.
Here are the results of measuring the horizontal view angle. Measuring method describe below.

How the View Angle looks like from the window of vehicle shown below.

A. THE MEASUREMENT of “VIEW ANGLE”
Template №1 (for angles up to 90 degrees).

Template №2 (for angles from 90 to 130 degrees).

Template №3 (for angles of 130 to 150 degrees).

A1. Open the required template in a new window of Internet browser.
A2. Measure the “reference length” as shown in the picture. If the “reference length” is equal to 210 mm – go next.

A3. Place the dashcam at a distance Z1, Z2 and Z3 from the template, see the picture.

A4. Align the left edge of the dashcam screen with a red line on the template as shown in the picture. Number near the right edge of the screen will show the value of view angle in degrees.

A5. If the right edge of the dashcam screen goes out of measurement – use a next template.

B. THE MEASUREMENT of “VIEWING ANGLE” with a protractor

B1. Place the dashcam on paper A4 .

B2. Mark a point to the right as shown in the picture. Look through the dashcam screen.

B3. Put one more point, as shown in the picture.

B4. Do the same on the left side of the paper.

B5. You have got four points.

B6. Draw the View Angle, as shown in the picture.

B7. Measure the Veiw Angle with a protractor.
